Consuming vegetables and fruits may be done every day by the majority of people, but whether the portion that are consumed is enough? A recent study revealed that the servings of vegetables and fruits that are enough to reduce the risk of heart disease is as much as 7 servings per day.
Research conducted in Spain recently revealed that people who eat 7 servings of vegetables and fruits every day will be far more healthy than those who do not. Research also shows that eating lots of vegetables and fruits are very positive influence on heart health.
Researchers from the Andalusian School of Public Health's Granada Cancer Registry doing analyzed on 25.682 cases of death in 451.151 people of population during the period of 13 years. They found that people who ate more than 569 grams of vegetables and fruits, or about 7 servings, average 1.12 years live longer than those who ate fruits and vegetables less than 249 grams per day.
The study also showed that for every increase in 200 grams of consumption, the risk of mortality would decline as big as 6 percent. Therefore, the researchers believe that nearly 3 percent of the deaths could be prevented if everyone ate 6 or 7 servings of vegetables and fruits in a day.
Not only that, this study also explains that people who eat a lot of vegetables and fruits are 15 percent smaller possibility to affected by heart disease. More than 4 percent of deaths related to heart disease can also be prevented if everyone ate enough vegetables and fruits, including the people who are obese and smokers.
They believe vegetables and fruits can give a positive effect because the antioxidant content. This content is believed to reduce oxidative stress that are caused by alcohol consumption, smoking, and excess weight.
This research proves that if everyone ate the amount of vegetables and fruits such as recommended in a day, then the amount of people with chronic diseases and premature death risk will drop 10 to 25 percent.
"There is now sufficient evidence regarding the beneficial effects of eating vegetables and fruits, including to prevent cancer and other chronic diseases. One of the most effective next step is to promote the consumption of vegetables and fruits to the residents as often as possible," said the lead author of this study , María José Sánchez Pérez.
